history
Childhood | Teenage Years | Adulthood |
Parents: Markovic Volkova - Father: Former Volkova Knight; Fae; Deceased Ambrosine Noyer - Mother: Noble; Fae; Deceased Siblings: Sapphira Noyer - Sister: Noble; Fae Iscan Volkova - Brother: Noble; Fae; Deceased To say his life was easy would be to lie. From the start, Noctis was saddled with an unwinnable fate. His parents had made a promise, one that doomed their son from the start for their battle was against fate itself. He was born with a curse on his soul. His parents had chosen to pursue their own happiness and promised him to the seat they had discarded. He was to be the heir to the Volkovas in return for them to be able to live their lives freely. But his parents were hopefully and hopelessly stubborn. They vowed to find a way to win and free their blood, but it was a vow that would go unfulfilled. Until then, they would wait and prepare for the right moment. Thus Noctis was welcomed to life. His childhood proceeded much like any child of the Volkovas with one exception: his parents tried desperately to shield him and teach him differently from the Volkovas. From the second he could walk, he was taught to fight, to poison, to kill. While the Volkovas taught him kill-craft, his parents taught him honor and chivalry. They wished him to be kind to the weak and a stalwart protector to those who needed it. A weakness in the Volkova household, but a lesson they wished dearly for him to learn. It would be the one thing he would be able to keep after their deaths. But the Volkovas were weapons, born and bred. They valued strength above all, and the weak were mercilessly culled. Thus he had to prove himself or lose his life. Despite the promise his parents had made and his bloodline, none of it provided any protection in the cutthroat competition between his own kin. And much to his parents' disappointment, he excelled in exactly the things the Volkovas valued, and he was soon granted the title of heir. | He was admitted to the School of War as many Volkovas are. Thus far, his path had followed exactly as fate demanded. He was the Volkova heir and well on the path to being what his father refused to be. But even so, he kept his parents' lessons close to his heart. Where the Volkovas would cull, he would save. Where the Volkovas would abandon, he would protect. He was determined not to be what they wanted. But try as he might, he knew a part of him was exactly what they wanted. When he was crowned heir, the Volkovas had wasted no time in arranging his would-be fiancé, but it wasn't until he was sixteen that he met her for the first time. She was a child of the Enigmas as was customary, and the final chain locking him into his fate. If his family had their way, they would be wed, and he would be forever bound to serve as their black dog. As this undeniable fate drew closer, tensions in his family began to rise. Older and wiser, his parents spoke of their plans with him. They were to run. At this point, they saw no other choice. He had two younger siblings now. Sapphira and Iscan should not have to face the same trails as he had. He wanted dearly to protect them from the cruel hands of the Volkovas. As they prepared to flee, he worked hard in his studies, hoping to acquire as many weapons as he could before they fled. Having grown up within their nest, he knew intimately how ruthless his kin were. He would need anything and everything he could muster to win. At eighteen, his family made their desperate escape. | For the first few months, they kept moving and never stayed in one place for longer than a month. Over and over again, they shifted place. They changed faces and names, anything they could to remain hidden. When no one came for them after a few months, they started to hope. The Volkovas aren't known for giving their prey time. Maybe, just maybe, they could succeed. After a quiet 2 years, their guard began to slip as their hope grew. In that brief moment of dreaming, they would make their fatal mistake. They chose to settle down in a remote corner of the lands in hopes that they could make a permanent home for themselves. His mother grew a small garden of their favorite plants, while his father immersed himself in books and scribework. They would live of the land and to keep to themselves and finally find peace. On the eve of their fourth year, a letter arrived. It needed no address or name nor did they need to read the contents. A single look was all it took to know exactly what it was. They had not beaten fate or escaped the Volkovas. The Volkovas had simply let them be, but now, their patience was wearing thin. Noctis flew into debate with his parents. Should they stay and fight in hopes that they might win their right to peace or flee in the face of an impossible battle? It was decided that they would run. Sapphira and Iscan were too young to face battle no matter what the Volkovas say. They could not risk their lives for such a miniscule chance of success. They fled with nothing but the clothes on their back that day. Their escape attempt was short-lived. Not a month later, the Volkovas cornered them. As strong as their defiance was, to call the events a battle would be to lie. They were quickly and efficiently subdued and captured, and when his parents refused to submit, they were killed. Their last words to Noctis pleaded that he protect his siblings. They needn't have asked for that had always been his goal. Unfortunately, he knew only way to go about it. The siblings were returned to the Volkova household. Immediately upon arriving, he demanded to see the family head. A wish that was granted much to his surprise. Thinking back, they had likely already known what he was going to do then. Try as he might, the cogs of fate continued to steadily and unceasingly turn and grind. To the family head, he made a promise. If they would guarantee the safety of his siblings, he would no longer refuse his fate. The smile the head gave him in return told him that everything had gone exactly as they planned. He took up a place in the Royal Guard as was customary for Volkovas and soon took the role of Captain as was his right as heir. As expected, he was everything they were looking for in their heir. As cold and ruthless as a Volkova should be. A few months later, Sapphira would be sent to the Noyers, and Iscan would be sent to the Enigmas. But much to Noctis' despair and grief, while he received news that Sapphira made it safely, Iscan did not. His rage and fury descended on the family head. The promise had been broken. He needn't do a thing they say anymore. But his rage was quickly and easily disregarded. The promise had not been broken. It had been a tragic accident, and they had not killed Iscan, thus the promise remained. He had no hand to which he could use to deny them. All he could do was give in to his grief. The years since have been monotonous in their passing. He defended his title as heir and worked as the Volkova's dog doing anything and everything desired of him perfectly. As promised, he no longer fights his destiny and simply waits for the final bell to toll. |
personality
A paragon of a knight, Noctis values chivalry and honor above all else. To protect that is his mantra. and he is more than willing to sacrifice himself to save another.. He wields his blade with a finesse built from a lifetime of practice. Much to his distaste, he was forged to be lethal. Despite how much he strives to maintain an honorable appearance and only act with honesty and righteousness, he no longer hesitates when it comes to taking a life. A lifetime spent immersed in the shadows and red seas has forged a part of him he wishes never existed. In his family, he stands at the pinnacle, but the fact brings him no joy. As well as he can act like a honorable knight showing nothing but kindness and integrity, he can just as easily be the ruthless black heir of the Volkovas. In either form, he demands respect and will give no quarter to foolishness. To the weak, he is a savior and protector. To the corrupt, he is the law's blade. As it is, his life is split down two ways: the path he wishes to take and the path fate demands he take.

The smirk on his face was taunting and teasing, "Perhaps it's better if you don't know." Some came seeking information only to find knowing was worse than ignorance. Keep your cards close to your chest. So he did. He couldn't lie, but that didn't mean he had to tell the whole truth. And for this little game, he didn't need to spare a thing. "Though they are not in poor tastes."
Silas had no qualms about the fate he was tempting and the trouble he brewed though his teacher would laud it as the foolishness of the young. Until the mire of fate came to swallow him whole, he would play his game any way he wished. "Your actions speak differently." His dance spoke of a refinement dulled by unuse. For a moment, he was, once more, Iscan Volkova. But the moment passed just as quickly to leave only Silas Avillio behind. "I make fine company if I do say so myself."
A laugh filled his eyes. "Do you think me so vile?" She wasn't wrong. He never did anything without reason. "Is a dance with a lovely lady not enough?" Though he wouldn't be sharing them tonight. This might have been a game he was still learning to play, but for Silas, it came as easily as breathing.
