welcome to Midsummer
Welcome to the wilds of Faerie, where deception and intrigue wind through the courts of the fae. Revels overflow with excess, beauty, and betrayal, while the students of the Iris Academy learn to take their place in a world where nothing is ever as it seems. Now, as a blue moon rises, the reigning High Court prepares to make peace with the Undersea, but peace is not something that rises easily from the ashes. Beware wandering into a faerie circle, mortals, and never strike a bargain with the fae; they may not be able to lie, but they are always hiding something.
Midsummer is a character-driven, fae folklore, text-based RPG site, founded 3 September 2023 by admins SeaJem + M. Site Lore
The Faewild is comprised of four Cardinal Courts, plus the ruling High Court and the Undersea. The Seelie Courts, North and South, are slightly more traditional and straightforward (as much as the fae ever are), which their Unseelie counterparts to the East and West are duplicitous and wild.
Farthest south, beneath the waves, lies the Undersea, home to the pearl-encrusted Sunken City. The Undersea fae are a proud people—perhaps too much so, according to some of their counterparts on dry land. All of the Faewild is ruled by the High Court, whose power is personified in the High King and Queen. By wearing this crown, they take on the spirit of the Faewild; their hearts beat with the heart of the land. Beware, and choose your words carefully: the fae are a capricious and tricky people, as fickle as they are cunning, and their rulers are the most of all.

And wind can fan a fire
[break][break]
Chao Li didn't feel comfortable many places. Didn't often find himself feeling safe, feeling secure. Rarely did he ever find himself relaxing. He didn't allow himself to. There were luxuries, and there were luxuries that could be bought, and this was not one of them. Certainly not one that could be afforded. Not by him. [break][break]
But in times like these, when he was home, and Silas wasn't off doing anything stunningly dangerous (that he knew of), it was easier for him to relax. For him to set down the sword and the shield and give up the hunt. No beast could bare it's teeth forever. [break][break]
He wished that this sanctuary was something that could be maintained, but the thing about betrayal was that it always came from the people you kept close. And he thought he had been safe because Silas betrayed everyone, but clearly, he had not seen this coming. [break][break]
So he may have seemed relaxed, but he was really just poised. No beast could bear it's teeth forever, but he hadn't survived this long by being underprepared. Unfortunately, though, preparing for this felt like borrowing trouble. It felt like drawing out pain. He didn't want to have to keep waiting. He wanted to rip the bandage off. He wanted this to be over with. [break][break]
He wanted to be able to believe this was all a misunderstanding, but there again was that gut feeling that told him when something simply wasn't right. When something was simply just skewed, when it wasn't a mistake but something greater. Did he want to believe Silas had the capability to be that malicious? No, but what he wanted and what was true didn't always line up. In fact, they rarely did. And sometimes choosing to sit and watch everything go wrong was its own kind of malice. And that malice had to be met with something, because there was no justice unless he made it. [break][break]

Nightlight found him with his ears where they shouldn't be, and his eyes watching every dark corner. He worked on his own schedule, but it was a schedule that left him awake at the darkest hours and asleep until the sun was high in the sky. Now, he returned home to the one quiet corner in the world where he didn't have to care about a lick.[break][break]
An absent wave of his hand closed the door and clicked the lock in place. His room being just a step too far, he opted to crash on a couch in what amounted to the living room though it would never see any guests. He could tell from the disturbances in the room that Crowley was home. Things weren't quite how he remembered them when he'd left earlier that day. His eyes scanned the barren space. As he was constantly on the move, he kept few personal items. He didn't know when he'd have to up and leave anyways.[break][break]
He called out into the otherwise silent space, "You're here, Crowley?" Though it was spoken as such, it wasn't a question. "You wanted to talk?" The possible topics were numerous given everything Silas had done. The two of them fell on opposite sides of what few laws the fae had, but Silas trusted the knight with his life. He was the only one that had that honor. [break] [attr="class","ptquoo]What’s the easiest way to steal a man’s wallet? [break][break]
Chao Li's honor could freeze champagne over. He was always the dignified one, always the brave one, always the honest one, but it seemed that the only way to maintain that was to have honor cold as ice as a forcefield. It was a defense mechanism, but it was logical, and sometimes logic seemed like all he had. With justice such as this, who needed cruelty? [break][break]
He preferred things to be neat. He wanted things to be orderly. They didn't have many dishes, two bottles of wine, more coffee. He tried to keep everything ordered in his head. It was impractical for him to live here, for him to purchase the things that they needed when Silas wasn't here half the time and he had a job that was meant to pay for all this anyway. It was impractical for him to live between here and the North Court. If he stayed there all the time his heart might rot from the inside out. [break][break]
Silas was a tornado. Knocking over cups, breaking dishes, stealing the wine and replacing it with mead and thinking he wouldn't notice. It was infuriating. It was refreshing. It was a cleanse. He didn't want to be happy to see him now. He didn't want to look up when the door opened. He didn't want to smile. It would make this worse. [break][break]
"Yes, at any point that you would care to return to the land of the living." he said dryly, staring at his coffee cup, trying to decide if it was too late in the day to get more. Probably not. He didn't truly need to be asleep before midnight, at least. [break][break]
Silas was in his room. They couldn't see each other. He didn't need to. He didn't want to go into Silas' room and look at him. It was just one question. It should be easy. It was never going to be easy. [break][break]
