The High King gets around. While one may not think of being royalty as a disadvantaged state of birth, Gemini was born in the worst of royal positions. That is, an illegitimate, half-mortal, many-times-spare heir to the throne. While the fae care little for whether a child is born in or out of wedlock, given their penchant for frivolous and numerous romances, being half-mortal marked Gemini as a second-class citizen, hardly fit to be a royal heir. His mother, Rosemary Whitehill, was but a forgettable tryst to the High King, Alaric; he tried, shortly after Gemini was born, to bring her to Faeire, largely to keep her within easy reach, but she went mad in the Faewild and attempted to poison the king. This was how Gemini grew up—hardly raised or supervised, left to his own devices in a palace overfull of heirs and empty of affection. Ambrose and Ophelia's mother, Maeryn, was the High King's favorite, the one he eventually married, though she had no ruling ambitions. Gemini, for his part, was quietly but clearly despised for his mother's actions; anything he wanted to learn, he had to teach himself. | Enrollment in the Iris Academy, for Gemini, was an escape from the palace—though not from the High Court, where he was seen as the disgraced excuse for an heir, the poisoner's prince. He struggled in the magic lessons that seemed to come so easily to his peers, but as a student of Theory, it was in academics that he excelled. Finally, he had something to feed his desire to understand. Another area where he discovered a talent was in swordplay. His strategic abilities and skill for thinking quickly made him a threat to even the children of nobles who'd trained at home. While this had the potential to make them despise him further, Gemini devised a new mission: he would create a louder reputation than the one pinned on him at birth. He would be polite and clever and charming, and soon the High Court would be endeared to the weak-blooded spare, ensnared by the poisoner's prince. | N/A |

This trait is important to his character because it fuels his frustrated ambitions—he knows that he has the potential to be legendary and create something that will outlast him, but because of his bloodline he is forever set back.
