Guinivere watched the Oleanders enter with an almost nervous amusement. A convocation of poisonous flowers. She had covered the dais with oleanders of every color to prepare for their audience with her. But her throne remained untouched. It blossomed belladonna only. She would not let them overcome her. The meeting with the traitors. The hearing of the rebels. She didn’t trust them and she wouldn’t, but they had openly said they didn’t trust her. She wasn’t sure if their false sweetness would fail them now or if she would find herself drowning in poisoned honey. [break][break]
They were the only ones who had declared for Ambrose. The Seelie liked the traditional. They hated change. They pretended to be kind while spinning their webs to keep everything exactly the same. Their warmth was the kind of thing that froze time. But she wasn’t traditional, and she wasn’t the same. She was change. She was a tidal wave. She was knocking over the system of things. They would hate her for it. [break][break]
It didn’t matter. She wasn’t on trial here. They would be judging her, they would be deciding, but the throne was hers. The people had chosen. Ambrose was gone. For now, at least, they were under her control. They couldn’t change that– yet. She wasn’t on trial, but she was proving herself. She would be even as they were forced to answer her questions. Even as they were forced to justify themselves. [break][break]
The three entered, all golden-hair and haloed. She was a dark eyed girl with dark hair and dark intentions. The Cruel. The Mad. Her silence was a test. She was throwing something into water and watching how they would respond to her. None of them had run yet. No one had cowered before her. But hadn’t been ready for her either, not like they thought they were. She just smiled slightly and watched. It had been a long week. It was not over yet. [break][break]
