history
Childhood | Teenage Years | Adulthood |
Nikolai grew up in the Hugh family castle in the Easy Court, and spent most of his summers traveling to the North Court to visit his mother’s side of the family. He always liked them a lot more than his father’s side, as they were able to create his beautiful, loving flower of a mother, as opposed to the family that made his harsh, cruel father. He loved art, and spent most of his time hiding from his private tutors in the sculpture gardens, wishing he could recreate something even as remotely beautiful as them. His father grew tired of his antics quickly, and buckled down even more on the boy, restricting him from leaving his room entirely. His only escape was the afternoon walks that Veliakaia, his mother, would take him on. Rex’s only soft spot was for her, and despite how he treated his only heir, he was never as hard on Nikolai as he could’ve been, only because Velikaia loved her son, and therefore, Rex had to as well. He begged to be sent to the Iris Academy's Magic School. Finally, his father allowed him to, seeing it as an opportunity for his son to make connections. | YEAR ONE/TWO: Nikolai started his school years well. His exam scores were great, and he never missed a class. He was likable enough, but it was the teachers who fell for his charms the most during these years. He was at an age where he was cute still, but everyone could tell that when this boy grew up, he would be quite the heartbreaker. YEAR THREE/FOUR/FIVE: He attended his first dorm party at the end of his third year. From that moment on, Nikolai the playboy of his year. Everyone knew him, and everyone loved him. His grades began to slip, he began to skip classes, and eventually people began to notice that even though he was incredibly smart, he simply didn’t care. He made friends and lost them again, his inner circle morphing and developing as it gained new people whom he could use, and then lost the old ones who’d served their purpose. He barely passed his exams, squeezing in just enough time to store important facts away into his photographic mind. Nikolai was hardly the most studious throughout school, but he did what needed to be done. YEAR SIX/SEVEN: The last two years were the worst and somehow the best, too. Nikolai was nearly expelled for not showing up to classes for a straight week. When his parents were called to the Head Instructor’s office, he had to swear to his father in front of the Head Instructor that he would work very hard in school to make up for what he hadn't done and then begin working hard to become an Emissary the second he graduated. His father also arranged for him to be sent to the Theory School. This way, his father was able to convince the Head Instructor that his son would do better, if only given a second chance. He continued to party and sleep around, but his schoolwork was put first and he attended enough classes and did enough homework that he passed his exams comfortably. | Nikolai got himself a job as assistant to the East Court's Emissary, keeping his promise to his father for the first (and hopefully the last) time ever. Rex made sure to drill into him the importance of working hard, and telling him that if he were to ever be on the verge of getting fired, his father would find something to ruin his reputation with. Nikolai was not embarrassed to admit that his father's words and tone of voice had scared him well enough for him to actually show some effort at work. He had it easy because of social status. His first year went well enough, and he was able to cement himself as trustworthy. Or, as trustworthy as a faerie can be. The most important thing though, was that he was trying. His second year started out with a much better mindset than the year before, he realized he should do the job for himself, for how he wanted to change the relations between his courts, not how his father wanted them to be changed. Nikolai moved to a family penthouse by himself, to be closer to his work and farther from his family. There he lives, wandering about the city during the day and smoking on the roof during the night. Like in school, his attendance to work can become spotty at times, but most of the time he is diligent in what he does. He knows he is smart, and knows that he can do extremely well, if he applies himself. Nikolai lives a lavish life, taking out loads and loads of money from the family vault and then wasting them on luxury outfits that he only wears once. Nikolai is a man of many flings, and has never had a relationship (platonic or otherwise) last more than a week. |
personality
Nikolai is lazy. He is the picture perfect playboy, sleeping around, mooching off of his parents immense wealth. He believes that he wasn’t made for being in love, only attraction. He knows he is attractive, he knows everyone either wants him or wants to be him. But to the untrained eye, Nikolai can be seen as selfish, lazy, and unkind. Deep down, he is really just scared that no one will ever accept him for who is, instead of what he looks like and what he has. Don’t mistake his laziness for stupidity. No, that would be a grave mistake. Nikolai is deadly smart, and has quite the photographic brain. How his mother and father’s gene pool combined to make him like this, he will never know.
special situations
Nikolai has an extremely photographic memory, which makes it easy for him to learn things, as he memorizes them quite quickly. He has no qualms about using it to his advantage, and does not consider it cheating. If it was cheating, it would be untruthful, and therefore he wouldn't be able to do it, right? This ability does not make Nikolai a prodigy, per se, but it definitely gives him prodigy-like abilities.
(Also I don't know where to put this, but this is my freebie character. I just wanted to make an application for him so there's some background on him until I do plotters/bios)
