The Violas [break][break]
[break][break]Viola, or the Viola Family, is an organization dedicated to the practice of hunting fae. The family origins are lost to time and poor record keeping, but they truly organized into a cohesive party in early renaissance Italy. The family, at least presumably, came into existence around humans who possessed knowledge of the faewild’s existence, and in classic mortal fashion, wished to utilize such knowledge. As such, the family developed various techniques for interacting with this second world, and manipulating the forces associated with it. The magic of the fae remains to this day, a treasured commodity in the world of mortals, and it is via the repurposing of this ‘foreign element’ that the viola family exists as they do now.
[break][break] In the modern world, the Viola Family is a mafia-esque network of independent hunters, assassins, craftsmen, and experts dedicated to their unique area of expertise, all hiding beneath the veneer of a crime family, that again hides beneath a legitimate corporate family. Akin to the Mafia, while there is a decidedly familial aspect to the organization, only a select few are members of the actual genetic line, some are vaguely related, and many are simply not related. Blood connection, while not necessary, does tend to afford higher managerial status. The family’s signature art of hunting is designed to give mortal beings enough knowledge of the fae to not only infiltrate its depths, and learn its secrets, but ultimately to take its magic for ones own, a process that often ends with what is considered the family’s centerpiece, the domestication of faeries. By defeating, and forcing fae creatures into service, usually by obtaining true names, Hunters are able to use the power of fae as though it were their own, a technique that has earned them their reputations- in the mortal world, a business conglomerate with ties to an old noble family rumored to engage in the underworld to ensure their wealth, and in the faewild, frightening tales of faeries disappearing without a trace, mortal predators in the dark. In the present, the family does not possess much of a singular ideology, the most widespread stances among their ranks being the commercialization of fae, the personal utilization of fae, and outright genocidal enmity towards the species. While opinions range from outright xenophobia to a more ‘friendly’ opinion of fae as cute pets, there are few who would consider the fae as actual individuals.
[break][break]Regardless of opinion however, it remains true that any hunter benefits from the fae being in a state of unrest. This makes infiltration and abduction easier, and keeps the fae focused on their own internal struggle. As such, the current shared goal of the Viola Family is the prolonging of the current leadership crisis. The war between the high court and the undersea was a positive environment for the family, and fortunately, the conclusion of this chapter was quickly reevaluated with the death of the king. Hunters are currently taking measures to ensure this power vacuum exists as long as possible. [break][break]

[break][break]
How to Work
[break][break]
The family divides their resources by sending specific orders and contracts to hunters on an individual basis, and can range from basic hits to more complicated espionage assignments. While specific jobs will be provided at management's discretion, every active combat hunter is required to meet a monthly quota requiring the live capture of fae. While the quota was previously three live fae per month, it has recently been increased to five. Though specific pay for captures and kills are frequently relegated to contracts, there are pay bonuses awarded to quota fills depending on hierarchal status and magical ability. Hunters have access to a general listing on these, but for more specific cases, such as odd bloodlines, curses, or any aberrant status of a catch, this should be reported to the research division, which will award additional pay based on their evaluation.
[break][break]
On the topic of tools- The family does their work largely with iron weapons of various shape, augmented with herbs and substances known to negatively impact fae. Captured and bound fae are often used to augment tools, and even hunters, as well, so it is reasonable to assume that a hunter can access various enchantments and wards, provided these are approved by the family. Hunters of course have access to modern technology, but given the strange environs of the faewild, are forced to use tools from antiquity in their hunt. Some ancient technology does seem to operate properly, but only in very basic fashion. For example, Bran Viola possesses smoke bombs and a gas mask, but these are more akin to burnable clumps of herbs laced with iron shavings, and an enchanted cloth filter. Reach out to site lore to ask whether or not a tool could conceivably work in the faewild, and remember, when technology fails, the gap can often be crossed with magic derived from our on-site servile fae!
[break][break]
Finally, If you come into possession of a Faeries true name, while you are generally entitled to their use, you will be required to add their true name to the family's records, and management reserves the right to reassign fae to different uses based on necessity.[break][break]

[break]Bran Angelo Viola is a young, high rank hunter from the direct familial line, specifically, the great grand nephew of the Patriarch. He is an odd exception to some of the families rules on fae use, as he accidentally bound a fae during an attempt on his life, and the destruction of the family villa, at the age of five. He is currently assigned to monitor the line of succession around the blackthorn throne.[break][break]

The current and 37th patriarch of the Family, Andrea is a taciturn old man upon whom leadership weighs like an iron blanket. As an indirect result of the weight of leadership, he was wheelchair bound 40 years ago, in the same incident that widowed him. Over his career he has bound an abnormal number of fae, one from each cardinal court: Mercutio from the south, Cybele from the east, Oberon from the west, and Aristide from the north. these are all NPCs, but if anyone is interested in exploring them, feel free. Due to enchantment by Cybele, Andrea is expected to live to 120, and retain mental clarity the whole way.[break][break]

Something went wrong, however, and Lucio was assaulted by his coconspirators, who he dispatched, receiving grievous injuries in the process. The Family was able to resuscitate him, but he has become nonverbal, and his true name, apparently given to Bran in a deal that the latter has forgotten, has been lost. Mercutio is owed a spot in this registry apart from Andrea's other fae due his unique role. Mercutio is a fully cognizant faerie child, bound in his infancy, and raised in the confines of the family villa. As a result, he is accepting of his servitude, despite being fully aware of his position. Unlike his fellow servants, Mercutio is not used for his magical, physical, or mental abilities, but instead as an attendant for the wheelchair bound Andrea. He feeds him, Moves his wheelchair, and assists Andrea with anything his condition prevents him from doing on his own. Andrea keeps Mercutio akin to a beloved dog, and occasionally feeds him dates as treats. Mercutio is also able to enter several of the fae-free zones to attend to Andrea, crossing iron doorframes in a special pair of insulated socks.[break][break]
