history
Childhood | Teenage Years | Adulthood |
Soleil was born to parents of low birth within the bounds of the North Court. Their parents did not truly loved each other, as they were in that sort of arranged marriage. Their parent's families were close allies, thus the union. It was a very close knit community. Close knit to the point of Soleil being arranged at such a young age, to a boy a few years her senior. She heavily disliked him at first, hating the idea of marriage as a whole. She eventually warmed up to the idea of him, after getting to know him more. Despite the pressure, she loved the close knitness of it all. At least, she did at the time. | The boy she'd been arranged to died when she was thirteen. They had been exploring the woods close by, finally beginning to open up to each other. In that moment, young Soleil thought that she might one day love him. That she might not turn out like her mother, hardened by marriage and motherhood. She was wrong, but not in the way she thought. The boy was joking with her, and fell off as he was crossing a log over a ravine. She blamed herself. if she hadn't been there, he wouldn't have been joking around. He wouldn't have died. Her parents also blamed her. Rumors spread. Ill-omened child. This was when she began to despise the close knit nature of their home. She went to work for Sapphira's family. She didn't know what else to do. Savannah sister ran away to the East Court. While Soleil had been the golden child, Savannah had been abused by their father. Of course, after the death of her betrothed, she was no longer the golden child. Savannah became a knight. Soleil learned to garden. Marcus Coult (Sapphira's husband) was also a gardener. | She thought Marcus to be a friend to her. He thought of her as more. He asked her to become his mistress. She feared refusing him, and being sent home. The shame of it was something she couldn't bear to face. So she agreed. When Sapphira murdered him, she offered Soleil a choice. Die, or become her apprentice. As horrible a turn her life had taken, she did not want to die. So she agreed, yet again to a deal that didn't truly benefit her. At the current date, she harbors a lot of bitterness towards the world as a whole. |
personality
Soleil has been hardened by the world and her own experiences. She has grown guarded of her thoughts and plans, preferring to keep them to herself. Despite the belief of her parents, she is smart. A strategist at heart. She finds strength within her own mind, rather than the physical strength her sister relies on. She's resolved to not allow others to see her vulnerable, seeing as those who have played on it. She is careful with her words and her appearance, a result of her early years by her parent's side. A perfectionist, through and through. Can be a bit blunt. Can be a tad sarcastic.

He ran a hand through his loose waves of hair, ruffling it slightly. He cleared his throat, still averting her gaze. He'd been called flattering words before, by nobles and the like who were trying to earn his favor. Handsome, intelligent, and the sort. Pretty, however, he'd never heard. It sounded more genuine. He thought he rather liked the sound of it. Especially coming from those lips of hers. He glanced back to her. "I just think you're being rather generous with your compliments." The word princess nearly slipped from his lips again.
Pushing his glasses back up on his nose with one finger, he replied, "That, I am aware of. But beauty isn't everything, yes? I believe I have better, more useful qualities than my features. My knowledge, perhaps? Knowledge is power, after all. Beauty can charm and beguile, but knowledge can lead, predict..." blackmail, in some more dangerous cases. "And the like. I'd rather not be just a pretty face." His pointed ears twitched.
At the question of his cat's origin, he looked back at the furball. "My parents gave her to me when I was young. They were gone often, and they believed I needed better companions than the staff. She was a kitten, then. She was a biting little thing." His tone was full of adoring sternness. Hecate truly was the most loyal creature in this world, sticking with him despite it all. Perhaps the cat was a magical creature. If she was, what a stubborn little thing for not letting him now. If she truly had gone all these years with magic and not told him... well, he wouldn't be mad. He couldn't really get mad at her.
He seemed to contemplate. A deeper secret? He tried to think, and ignore how silky and smooth her hair looked. Like a waterfall. He wondered what would happen if he touched it. He shook that thought off. "Well, I rather enjoy all sorts of art. Paintings and sculptures, to be specific. I cannot sculpt for the life of me, and I have tried. I also love painting, even if I am dreadful at it." He gave a soft chuckle. "I also want to care for magical creatures, as my career."
