history
Childhood | Teenage Years | Adulthood |
Talia was born in rather unfortunate circumstances, to a poor mother and a worse father. Her mother was a mortal who had been brought over to faerie by a noble of the West Court. However, he was already married, and when his wife found out that he had taken a mortal lover, she was enraged. She tore Esther's delicate social standing to shreds and forced her out of the west court. Now Esther was a mortal, alone in faerieland. She wanted to return home, but she wasn't clear on how to get back to the mortal world. Lost and confused, she had several brief flings with a variety of faeries. One of these was Talia's father. Her mother left them when Talia was one. She still doesn't know what happened to her mother or if she ever made it home. Talia was raised in the faewild, past the east court. Her family was bitterly poor. Her father had many children by different women, so Talia grew up with several half-siblings. Knowing her mother, she may have more. Most of her siblings were older than her and already denied entrance to the Iris Academy. More of them never bothered to apply. But Talia wanted more. Whether it was the sunlight over the meadows or the way the fog reflected patterns onto the trees, she was entranced with beauty. She wasn't at all happy or satisfied with her life. And while her father was deeply emotionally abusive, she still believed that maybe, just maybe, she could be more. She sent in several of her handcrafted art pieces to the Academy, and to her shock, she was accepted to the School of Craftsmanship. Esther Avedon: Mother; estranged Marc Lint: Father; estranged | Talia was amazed by the school. Not only by the splendor and the glamor, but by everything she didn't know. She was a voracious student, reading books on art and theory, trying to see all of the artwork the school had collected, drawing for hours on end. She was always somewhat obbsseive with her art. It was her one escape from reality. While most fae favored fine clothing or jewelry, Talia loved to paint. Perhaps it was her mortal mother. Either way, she was the only student specializing in painting and drawing, which made her experience quite unique. There were few students like her who were accepted on skill alone. She had a small group of friends, and while a poor half-mortal student may have seemed like a good target for bullies, she was largely left alone. She was so often hiding away in some corner of the library or outside that it was hard for anyone to find her, much less torment her. | Talia graduated from school and was offered a position working for the household of Alita Hugh. While she appreciated the opportunity, she was unsure of what to make of her patron. Still, she accepted. When she tried to tell her father, he was furious. He used his limited control of magic to burn her upper arms and then her paintings as well. Now she is not only trying to prove herself, but rebuild her portfolio and treat the burn scars, which after six months still haven't healed. She didn't like all the parties and duplicity of the noble circles of faerieland. It all seemed so shallow to her. But she had fought too hard to arrive to give it up on something so seemingly insignificant. |
personality
Talia is a dedicated artist who sees art as a way to make her life mean something. She thinks it might be able to clear the stain her family has left on her name. As such, she absorbs beauty voraciously. She is obsessed with the idea of finding and creating something beautiful and terrified of never acheiving that.
Beyond that, Talia is quiet, observant, thoughtful, and trained to always "stay in her place." She will rarely speak up or talk back. There are few things she hates more than conflict.

Guinivere took it as a promise. She needed something to remind herself. She didn’t always have to remember. Her world was more than just the past and regrets. There was a future.
Even though it was growing dark, it was warm here. It felt surreal, like a true safe house. Soon enough she would have to go and this moment— everything— would be broken. She realized with a start that if she didn’t want to, she didn’t have to see him again. The mission was over. Her debt was paid. Maybe there would be more, but it was her choice. And she still wasn’t sure what she wanted.
A weapon, a woman, a demon of the night. She would always be all of these things. But for now, she would just be Guinivere Marcel, who was finally, briefly, safe. She rolled up her sleeves almost thoughtlessly, though they left her scars exposed. Scars that were the reminder of the choices she’d made, of the things she’d thought she’d wanted. Scars that proved that the blood did not stop at her wrists. Scars that meant nearly nothing here, a place so full of secrets.
”You’re never going to be satisfied, are you?’ she asked, but there was warmth in her tone. There were not many people who could make her laugh. Then again, there weren’t many who would hold her when she cried. ”You are lovely, but I think you tell yourself enough for the both of us.” she said. The lightness of her tone conflicted sharply with the smell of smoke in her hair, but this world gave them little joy, few light moments. They were liars and criminals. They took what they needed.
Guinivere shook her head at his hesitation. ”You don’t have to tell me.” she said. She understood, far too well. She was a thief to the last, and it would be all stolen moments and snatched smiles from here on out, but she wouldn’t take this from him.
