[attr="class","nibby"] Welcome to Midsummer! [break][break]
Whether you were lured into the Faewild by an ad, a friend, or a lucky search, we’re happy to have you. However, navigating a new website can be daunting on your own, so fear not—we have a map of sorts for you.[break][break]
First and foremost (yes, both—it’s that important), you’ll start your journey by reading our rules. If you have any questions, we have a place to post those too! Traveling in a new place gets much easier when one learns the laws of the land, after all. [break][break]
Next, you’ll want to orient yourself in this new place. You can check out the Recent Posts to see who’s active, and while you're at it, join our Discord to connect with the Midsummer community. While these steps are optional, they’ll be the spot on the map that says: You are here.[break][break]
So, you’ve decided to join us and create a character—we hope. If you need character ideas, have a look at the wanted ads—there are always site members here who are in search of family members, friends and more. Your next stop will be the Applications board, where you will copy the application, then fill it out and post it in a thread titled with your character’s first and last name. Be sure to post it on the new character's account! If you don’t want to fill it out all at once, simply add (WIP) to the thread title, and you will be given two weeks to complete your application. [break][break]
Congratulations! You have created your first character. But you’re not at your destination just yet—be sure to claim your character’s face in our face claims, and claim their job in our job registry. Also, change your display name (in Edit Profile, under Personal) to your character’s first and last name (and middle, if you’d like), then add your alias to your character's status. [break][break]
If you have any other questions, don’t be afraid to ask; the fae may be tricky, but your admins want to make things as clear as possible. You can ask us questions by messaging staff members on site or on Discord (or, if you’d like to be anonymous, using our Modmail bot on Discord); you can also post in the Questions board that’s right near the top of our homepage.[break]

[attr="class","nibbi"] So—you’ve gotten your bearings in the Faewild, and now you want to be part of the community. Where to begin? While each individual journey is different, we have some tips for you. [break][break]
- Join our Discord! This is where a lot of our plotting happens, plus general chatting and sharing memes. Also, when site members make character art, graphics, or edits, they post it here. We have an active Discord community, and we’d love to have you join us. [break][break]
- Post in the shoutbox! This is slightly less active than our Discord, but at least one staff member is on at most times, and it’s a great way to connect with other members on site. [break][break]
- Check out the Plotting board. While it’s not technically required, most of our members will post lists of their characters here, to which you can respond with plot ideas. This board is also where you can find specific plot ideas. [break][break]
- Look in the Open Threads board to find threads to join! If you find one that looks interesting, be sure to post in it soon after—these tend to get claimed quickly.[break][break]
- Peruse the Wanted Ads for any specific plot or character wants—it may be that your existing character fulfills one of these, and it’s a great way to get started with plotting. [break][break]
These are just a few of the ways to get involved in the Midsummer community. Whichever path you choose to take, we’re happy to have you! [break]

[attr="class","nibby"] - Try to avoid small talk/get-to-know-you threads. Give your characters interesting circumstances under which to meet—a goal to accomplish or a problem to solve, for example—or decide that they already know one another. [break][break]
- Post in as many plotters as possible. You may only end up plotting with a few, but it's good to have options![break][break]
- Use bookmarks. I resisted this for far too long, and it made my life infinitely easier when I started using them. [break][break]
- Use Adoxography and Pixel Perfect to find codes for threaders, plotters, and pretty much anything else you could want. Just be sure to give credit to the original coders! [break][break]
- You can also check out our resource codes! These include some basic templates for threading and other bits and bobs that you can customize to fit your characters.[break][break]
- Be careful with how much your characters know—they can have good insight, but it’s more fun for everyone involved if certain things are saved for a big reveal. Be sure to check with the other writer if you’re ever in doubt.[break][break]
- Speaking of which, communicate with your fellow writers! If you have a question or concern about something in your thread, ask. Most of us are more than happy to work things out and talk about our plots, and if not, the admins are here to help. [break][break]
- Remember, roleplay is a collaborative process. The best plots come from two writers working together, each adding their own insights and ideas, and they often end up going in a completely different (often better) direction than either writer may have planned. [break][break]
If you have any tips to submit, just message them to a staff member on site or on Discord. We’ll review them and add them to the list!
