From the beginning she saw little of her father at the quiet home on the outer edges of the Sunken City with her mother. Every day, she would help her mother tend to the undersea flora and the few land plants her mother had preserved in her magical greenhouse. It was a quiet and uneventful life, but it was perfect for Asuka. Her father became a more consistent presence in her life a year before she was set to start at the Academy of Pearls. During the day, he would share stories of his work as an emissary, and at night, he would tell her about the stars above. It was her life's happiest moments with her family whole and happy. Her family would remain that way for a few years. Entering the Academy of Pearls, she met a land-dwelling fae by the name of Jazper Song. The two would become friends and forged a promise to see the cherry blossoms on land one day. But it was a promise that would remain unfulfilled. Tensions between her parents rose, and her father began appearing less and less. Something was wrong, but the young Asuka could only guess at what it could be. | At the beginning of her teenage years, the war between the Undersea and the High Court began. At first, the attacks didn't reach the Sunken City and the Academy, but each week brought them closer and closer. Her father no longer came home, and her mother no longer tended to her beloved greenhouse. Then that fateful day arrived when the Academy and the Sunken City was attacked. Moments before, her father rushed to their home and threw the doors open with a bang. He rushed them out as debris fell around them. In that moment, as they were pushed and pulled by the tides of a panicked crowd, Asuka thought of Jay. But her pleas to look for him fell on deaf ears as her parents worried first and foremost about getting them to safety. She never saw Jay again. The rest of her teenage years were layered with constant strife and the dangers of war. Jay was gone and though her father had returned to her life, things weren't quite the same anymore. Her father would leave for weeks at a time, and when he did return, exhaustion and stress weighed the family down. Everything that had been building up in the years came to a head the last year of her education. Despite how fateful their love had been, her parents chose to separate. Her father would still be around. He still cared about her and her mother, but the love was no longer there. They no longer held a piece of each other's hearts. So Asuka came to understand. Love was not eternal and true love was ever more ephemeral. | In her adult years, she became a herbalist, picking up where her mother left off. The flora had always been her home, and she delved into her work with every intention of driving off the shadows by doing so. But, sooner than she imagined, the war would end. For the first time in years, the stars returned to the sea and the sun rose over her shadows. Though her land found peace, her life had been forever changed. Her father ended up choosing a new fae, but made sure to spend time with Asuka and her mother. Though Asuka didn't hate her second family, she didn't feel any affection for them. They were simply a part of her father's life that would not be one of hers. Her mother returned to her greenhouse and the home they'd shared in Asuka's youth. A quiet life with her true love and her family had been her mother's wish though only half of it came true. Now, with tensions between the Undersea and the High Court easing, Asuka's father paid her a visit. The High Court would welcome the Undersea with a revel. Despite her uncertainties, Asuka agreed to visit the new lands. |
personality
Like the first snowfall or a cascade of flower petals, Asuka, by nature, is gentle and calm. When she lifts a hand, it is always to help and never to harm. Kindness is her companion and her life's guide. Whenever possible, she will try to help those in need. Unfortunately, while she attempts to believe in the good in everyone, she knows all to well that what lies in the heart is not always pure.
A child of nature. Asuka spends much of her free time among the forests and flowers of her homeland. She is happiest beneath the sun and the stars with a good book in hand or her sketchbook. A lover of flora and fauna of all kinds, flowers especially, she can wile away hours of her time in the graces of the wild. Of special significance to her is the cherry blossom. The lovely blossoms hold a special connection for her.
Somewhat awkward, she isn't always able to express her thoughts and emotions in the right words. A timidness born from her lacking sufficient words, she will use flowers to express her intent when words fail her. Calendula for sorrow. A pink rose for happiness. Carnations for love. The language of flowers is her second tongue.

His mentor had warned him when he'd found out as he always did. Don't get too close. Don't let your emotions take control. But even so, he hadn't stopped him. Frustrating as it was, Silas still couldn't best his teacher. There was no keeping anything from him. Even though he knew everything about Silas, Silas knew nothing about him. In his annoyance, he'd poked and prodded for even a hint of his teacher's secrets but not only did he find nothing, he was caught in the act. The day you find out my secrets is the day I retire from this field, he'd said. His teacher wanted him as his successor and that would happen the day Silas surpassed him, but that was not today.
Slipping into the building, he mingled and laughed with strangers turned friends. With a shifting glamor and plenty of drink, they would forget him by the first rays of the morning sun even as Silas remembered every last detail about them. That was how this game always played out. Always but for one. With a final laugh and drink, he slipped outside under the night sky.
His demeanor slipped from the party boy to the relaxed charmer. Like a snake shedding his skin, Silas was an actor who could slip from one role to the next. The glitz and glamor of the festivities faded into the background as he leaned against a far table. The slight creak of the door opening drew his eyes to his new visitor, his charming grin slipping into place. Don't let your emotions take control. He wouldn't. He was in control. "You've caught me again." The young broker stood. This meeting wouldn't mean anything. All of this wouldn't become anything. Because he was in control.
