| Annalise was born as an illegitimate child of the Hugh family. She was not the only one, but her mother was a serving artisan who's stability in the court was already fragile. Out of fear, Nessa switched her baby with the stillborn child of Caroline and Gabriel Luce. Annalise was raised with an incredibly strong glamour on her (as was customary for changelings), and did not even know she was fae until she was thirteen years old. Her human parents were incredibly loving, and as she grew older, it became more and more clear that she was not speaking. All tests showed that she could hear perfectly well, but whether it was the trauma of being switched so young or simply something she could not do, her parents took it in stride. This was at a point in the mortal world where there were few real diagnosis for such situations. She grew up being largely homeschooled by her mother, and she was seven when she discovered ballet. She started dancing when she was eight, and continued training until she was fifteen. She loved the rhythm and the flow of the dance, and with fae blood, she was incredibly skilled as well. When she was thirteen, she started noticing difference between her and her mortal parents. These did not come of anything until she was fifteen and met a solitary fae at a ballet training camp. That turned out to be the combat instructor (then) of the newly formed Iris Academy. He was impressed with Annalise's dance skills and saw them to be applicable to combat. She started travelling to faerie to train. | Annalise kept dancing until she was 25. She became prima ballerina at the Paris opera house. However, back in faerie, she was offered a chance to train at the undersea. She couldn't reject that chance, and retired from her position in Paris. It wasn't one she could have held for much longer anyway. She trained in the undersea for about twenty years. This was very impressive for any land fae as the two countries were on the brink of war. She continued visiting her mortal parents when she could, but she had to cut short her visit to the undersea when her mother and father died, a year apart from each other. Annalise threw herself into training even more fiercely. She returned to the Undersea for another several years and then started training on land when the war fully broke out. She trained in the North Court, where the first High Queen came from, and in the West Court, famed for their ruthlessness. She moved to the South Court for some time but found their friendliness abrasive. She avoided the East Court. She has no interest in her fae family. A year ago she was offered the position of Combat Instructor, and while many may scoff at her style and her appearance, they stop laughing when they realize she is one of very few land fae to wield undersea steel-- one of the sharpest substances in faerie. |
personality
Annalise is dedicated, curious, and straightforward. She may come across as abrasive but really she is just incredibly direct. She knows her skill set and she is committed to improving it. She is incredibly passionate when she cares but she cares about select few people and things. She struggles with deep relationship and generally sees her time in faerie as temporary, and in a way considers the mortal world her "true" home.

Suki snorted. Here he was, being all prim and proper like the last time she saw him she hadn't shoved her tongue down his throat. Like some kind of idiot, too. What did she think was going to happen?
She didn't know if she was guilty or just frankly amused at the things she did when she was drunk. She wasn't sober enough for there to be much to compare it to. Long walks in the woods, bare feet on prickly needles, or slammed against a wall with some music that was too loud. She was all the same girl, refusing to slow down, never taking a moment to be alone with her thoughts.
She knew too well what would happen if she did. When she was young, she would tear off into the woods at any chance. She still remembered the visual piece of the world like that-- all dappled sunlight and spilled-wine leaves. That was before her world became glitz and glitter and an embarrassment of riches. An embarrassment of everything and everyone. Back then, she enjoyed being still. Now the only time she walked in the woods was to avoid someone at a party.
Her aunt thought she could tame her. She didn't understand the Suki wouldn't just bite the hand that fed her, she would tear it off. She didn't understand that the name Kagome meant "lost," because that was what Suki was, eternally lost, a fated wandered. Nothing could pull her in any direction. She had found no current strong enough.
"I've been great," she drawled, leaning against the wall in a way that looked relaxed but was really meant to verify that her memory of this house was correct. "I don't imagine you dropped by on a social visit? You don't seem the partying type, but I bet you'd be a whole lot of fun."
She didn't know why she bothered, words dripping from her lips like honey. He wouldn't care one bit about the taste. And she still remembered how he tasted.

Annalise is nonverbal. While she can communicate with the written word and sign language, she is also very skilled with glamour and "smoke writing." At the moment, she does not speak under any circumstances. As she continues to grow as a character, she may become comfortable speaking to certain people; that has not been decided yet.
