He was born exactly as expected, and grew up as the golden crown prince of the South Court's royal family. He was a sunny, sociable child from the first, and already as a prince he was spared no luxury; as an adored and admired prince, the world was his oyster. As long as he remained adored and admired, that is. He quickly learned that he could be as arrogant and grandiose as he liked, so long as he was never sullen or melancholy. While the fae liked their stormy moods as much as they liked their other dramatics, nervousness and sadness were of little interest to them. Particularly in the South Court, with its false kindness like poisoned honey. He took to very few melancholy moods as a child before he learned that such behavior was meant to be hidden, both from his people and from his parents. | Luca attended the Iris Academy—again, as expected. Academics were uninteresting to the fae, so they were uninteresting to him, but he needed some education, so he studied at the school of Magic. Luca already had a gift for glamours, for charming others with his voice and persuading them or fully bringing them under his control, so it made the most sense. It also wasn't as deep and serious as a subject as, say, Theory or War. He made himself a leader of sorts by virtue of being well-liked; he was like the sun in more the sense of heat than warmth, but that didn't stop his peers from being drawn to him. You either loved or hated Luca, but he was too much of a personality to be neutral on. The revelry didn't cease simply because he was at school; in fact, most were held at his behest, and he could be found at the center, spinning beneath the lights or diving headfirst into fountains of nectar and wine. If he wasn't there, he was on the edges with some conquest or other; as a prince with endless options and a personality like his, he had access to practically any lover he might've wanted. All this said, one might've expected Luca to be a slacking student. But those paying close attention would've noticed the amount of real effort that he put in to be the equivalent of a "B+ student." Aside from charms, he wasn't any sort of magical prodigy, but he worked harder than anyone expected to do well. | Luca graduated with a decent academic record and a reputation for being cocky, even arrogant, but still infuriatingly well-liked. Some said his mouth was too big for him, that he made claims he couldn't reach, but those who looked close would've noticed the work that he put in to meet them. With no need to take a real career, he returned to the palace of the South Court, to his whirlwind of excess and dazzle; he would play the cocky, careless crown prince until it was his turn to take the throne. One might have thought he had no reason to care or be careful; he was a prince, after all. He could be as awful as he liked. But that was only true, he remembered as he had since his childhood, if he was interesting. If he was anything but quiet, or serious, or sad. |
personality
Luca is the glittering, effervescent picture of a fae prince. He is at the heart of every revel, quick to kiss and equally quick to tell, a beacon of charisma and charm. He is a strange duality, in which both sides of his persona seem to be fronts for one another: he can be grandiose and intimidating one moment, dangerously alluring, and the next, he is playful and sunny, or even flustered when countered by the right personality. It leaves one to wonder which is the truest version of him. The third side of the prism that no-one sees, however, is the gaping vacuum, always playing catch-up, never feeling good enough.

Gemini was a more able swordsman than anyone else in his family; one of his greater points of pride was that he'd been able to beat Ambrose in every sparring match when they were young. Shortly thereafter, they'd been forbidden from going against one another, and Gemini was no longer allowed to receive instruction. It didn't matter. He had always taught himself best.
All that was to say that he really considered involving himself, for a moment, when the bloodshed began; he rested a hand on the spiraling hilt of the silver, rather decorative rapier that hung at his hip and flexed his beringed fingers as if to draw it. Strange indeed, to be armed at a peacemaking revel, but no one paid enough attention to him to notice unless he wanted them to. Anyways, the knight was handling things so nicely, and his fae half couldn't help but delight in the chaos.
Would the lanterns break, he wondered? Would fire spill into the sea? Would it catch the Princess's hem, consume her, make her a torch, a sun in the form of a girl? Curiosities abounded. They were too strong for him to step in; he had to see what happened next.
Ophelia's small hand gripped his arm. She'd returned to his side. Gemini glanced down at her. "What is it?"
There was a frown on her face, so serious, like him in that way. "Look," she said, her voice overly placid. Gemini looked over the top of her head to the dais. His father's grip on Ambrose's shoulder had tightened; it was no longer a gesture of pride. The Crown Prince was the only thing keeping the High King upright.
Curious, indeed.
