Revels were such lovely things, in Cassie’s book. Most of the Folk were drunk out of their minds, doing questionable things with themselves, and not even paying attention to the world around them. Some might say it was unhealthy, and unsafe to do such a thing, but she loved it. It meant they were free! They could do what they wanted, and not remember it in the morning. Relationships were made, and new lovers were found. Closer to Cassie’s actual job, political alliances and connections could also be made. After all, all’s fair in love and war.
She made her way around, seeing what she could see, greeting those she could greet. A dignitary here, an old political rival of her father’s there, and she could never forget the racy comments that needed to be said to the peasant boys. It was so fun, flitting around, saying and doing things that some would never dare do. It was like she was defying her father. He didn’t want her to act the way she acted, but he could never get rid of her because of it. She was much too valuable to him, though he would never dare admit it.
Cassie leaned against a marble column, just at the edge of the dancing, where delicious delicacies were laid out for the Folk to pick at. She eyed those surrounding her, picking her mark for the night. This one looked fun. She brought a wine glass to her lips, the too-sweet liquid dancing on her tongue. Pushing off from the column, she made her way over to the King of the North Court, skin tingling as she felt the cold that he brought with him. Cassie had never been introduced to him before, but it was much more fun to introduce oneself than to be introduced by another.
“Good evening, Your Majesty.” she began with a short curtsy. “I don’t believe I’ve had the honor of meeting you before?” The game was on. Her smile was much too sweet, her tone much too insinuating. She refrained from touching the King though. Cassie did like her limbs without frostbite. She set a glamour over herself. A glamour that would make her blue-green skin look much shinier and smoother than normal, that would make the jewels dangling from her pointed ears much more glittery. “I am Cassie Enigma, a Princess of the High Court.” she looked up at him through her lashes, ignoring the chill on her skin. “It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance.” A King of the North Court should be able to withstand these advances. If not, she would know he was a weak man, not worthy of an alliance, only worthy of a fling. If so, well, she would have done her job quite well.
